We’re growing our own 5 a day!

Green-Fingered pals at Minster Didcot

Staff at our Didcot branch will have no problem getting their five a day over the coming months! The team have just started to grow their own fruit and veg in their own workplace allotment.

The Didcot branch was inspired during an Environment, Health and Safety day last autumn. This led them to give up on secure a 15ft-square patch of ground between their offices and the warehouse to plant their crops.

Branch Manager Neil Hope and his team are now eager to reap the harvest after preparing the plot and planting during the winter months. First crops will include onions and garlic, with runner beans, strawberries and fruit trees following on.

The ground required a lot of hard work and preparation and the teams ‘shopping list’ included two tons of sharp sand, a ton of topsoil, rolls of chicken wire and the services of a rotavator.

As you can imagine the allotment has become a real talking point for customers, suppliers and anyone visiting the branch! Team morale has also been boosted, with each member of the team pitching in wherever they can to help maintain the allotment.

So the next time you stop by our Didcot branch be sure to check out the allotment and see how the guys are doing.
