International insulation manufacturer, URSA, has supplied some 5000metre squared of URSA 20 Cladding Roll for use at International energy specialist, GE Oil and Gas, latest manufacturing facility development in the North east.

Description

A £15m investment at GE Oil & Gas in Newcastle, with Regional Growth Fund support, has led to the addition of two massive manufacturing and storage carousels, increasing capability for deep water pipeline manufacture at the site on the River Tyne.

Contractor, Complete Cladding Systems has managed the build which totals some x square foot. The completed facility has been developed to house the design and manufacture of high-quality flexible pipeline products and solutions used in the subsea oil and gas production sector.

Complete Cladding Systems, a repeat specifier of the URSA range, opted for the firms URSA 20 Cladding roll, via Minster Newcastle, which was used throughout the vast site. High levels of insulation were considered vital for the site, ensuring the area remained dry and X

Detailed Design

Metal roofing and cladding systems comprise an inner liner tray with space brackets and shooting rails onto which the external cladding is fixed. The space created by the brackets and rails is used to accommodate the mineral fibre insulation. Due to the nature of this type of construction, there are a number of specific design considerations that must be accounted for and URSA worked closely alongside the contractor to ensure the product met all of the clients wider objectives.

URSA Cladding is lightweight and tough, resilient and easy to install, easily cut using a sharp knife. A tightly packed space saving product, URSA 20 is rot proof, durable and maintenance free. It is non hygroscopic and will not slump in normal use.

Ian Claydon, Manager at URSA said: “This is of course a particularly large project that included the specification of huge amounts of our insulation. The contractor has utilised our products before and so was keen to work with us once again, confident in the knowledge that we would deliver in terms of quality and service.”

The project

The site is now fully operation and is home to two 26m diameter, 3000-tonne manufacturing and storage carousels. The carousels are required to service the growing number of deep-water developments worldwide, and rising demand for larger diameter pipelines that are specifically designed for higher pressure wells.

GE Oil & Gas employs more than 580 people at its Newcastle facility and 207 employees at the nearby pipeline inspection service facility in Cramlington. GE Oil & Gas acquired Wellstream International Ltd in 2011 as part of its growth strategy in offshore markets.
